Flashback Friday | 1963

Like today, the Mortlock Shield captured the attention of the Eastern Eyre Peninsula back in 1963, when the County Jervois team took the win at the Port Lincoln tournament.

Summer sport was still wrapping up in June, with presentations held to mark the end of the tennis season and local women participating in a basketball tournament.

June also marked debutante season, with balls held in Lock and Cowell to present the young women of the towns.

The community socialised through the month as the rains came in, with the Eyre Peninsula Tribune predicting one of the best seasons in memory.

Golfers from as far as Iron Knob visited the Cleve Golf Club for the annual open tournament.

The Cowell branch of the Country Women's Association celebrated their silver anniversary
