Following a mixed carnival in last years Mortlock Shield, Far West are looking forward to the 2019 edition of the competition with coach, Charles Coleman, ready for the new six team tournament. "I feel that the six team format is good for the competition and it should even us out well," he said.
After finishing in 6th last year, when asked how Coleman rated their chances this year, he was not giving anything away with his response. "I rate our chances just as good as the other five teams," he said. "I feel that any one of our players can make a difference on their day and stand up and take control of the game".
Captaining the Far West side at the 2019 Mortlock Shield will be Dom Denton, who featured heavily in Far West's campaign last year and Lawrence Benbolt, who are both ready to lead from the front and control the eager team on and off the field.
Despite not winning the Mortlock Shield for a long period, Coleman said that they will be ready for anything this year after a reasonably relaxed preparation. "We haven't done anything too different apart from getting the players to get to know each other better," he said. "We haven't won for a while so if we are successful it will be good not only for the team, but also for our league. Accuracy in front of goal will be important and could be the difference between winning and losing".
