Kimba hosts bowlers from across state

The Kimba Club finished the bowls season on a high with their May tournament.

The competition has become a popular annual event attracting many keen bowlers from Kangaroo Island, Victor Harbour, McLaren Vale, Yorke Peninsula, Port Augusta, Whyalla, Port Lincoln, Cowell and Cleve.

The sole sponsor for the two day event was Kevin and Amanda Booker from Bowls Sports Therapy.

This is their third year of sponsorship as they have developed a special relationship with Kimba and Eyre Peninsula and say we got them hooked on bowls from the first tournament with our friendliness.

Players were impressed with the artificial green, our new shade, blue skies and gentle wind which made for superb bowling conditions on both days.

The winners from day one were Judy and Steve Bell from Kangaroo Island, with Anne and Gary Grund from Whyalla (ex Kimba-ites).

In second place was Kangaroo Island team Brenton and Annette Speed and Kevin and Di Hoppo.

Third place both days was Ron Waller, Trish Clark, Gary Schrieber and Sue Enright, all from Port Lincoln and Cowell.

Day two was a popular event with continuous fours where each team of four played a different team every eight ends.

With eight mini games they got to meet and greet 32 players from other places.

The overall team winners on day two were Nigel Griffen, Daryl Karger, Darryl Hage and Ben Sunderland from Port Lincoln.

In second place were Kevin and Mary Glasson and Daryl and Gayle Steinwedel from Kangaroo Island.
