Cleve marks Australia Day | PHOTOS

Cleve locals gathered from 8am on Saturday for a free breakfast prepared by the Lions club ahead of the annual Australia Day presentations.

Dr Bob Irving, a veterinarian with experience treating sick animals in remote communities, was on hand as the Australia Day Ambassador.

He spoke about the “mixed emotions” Australia Day can bring, and that it was important to respect the past while thinking positive for the future.

Mayor Phil Cameron and Dr Irving presented Erin Roberts, Lauren Siviour, the Eyre Peninsula Field Days Committee, the Cleve Sporting Bodies and Shirley Duncan citizenship awards for their contributions in 2018.

Members of the Cleve Sporting Bodies kicked on with an event later in the day, bringing out the television to watch the final of the women’s Big Bash League.
