From Kimba to Port Neill, the children of the Eastern Eyre Peninsula joined the rest of the state this week in taking VACSWIM lessons at their local pool or beach.

Programs were run in Kimba, Darke Peak, Lock, Cleve, Cowell, Lucky Bay, Arno Bay and Port Neill for primary school aged students.

Children braved the cooler weather with the help of local instructors to improve their technique in the water.

For the young ones, feeling confident in the water and learning to float were the main priorities, with many getting to know the basics.

Parents were on hand to encourage their children, with some finding the course intimidating.

The program is a state government supported initiative which aims to provide affordable lessons for children across the state.
