Around 1500 people gathered in Adelaide over the weekend to protest against the Radioactive Waste Management Facility site selection process.
The ‘No Radioactive Waste on Agricultural Land in Kimba or SA’ group were unable to attend, because they have begun reaping in the area.
However Anna Taylor from Elliston made the trip, speaking on their behalf using a speech the group had written.
The speech asked Resources Minister Matthew Canavan to remove proposed sites at Kimba and Hawker from the process.
Ms Taylor read the group’s concerns about the negative impact they feel the debate has had on the community, and that they have “many unanswered questions” about the site selection process.
Speaking for herself following the rally, Ms Taylor said it was “totally inappropriate” to put the responsibility of site selection on the small communities of Kimba and Hawker and those along transport routes should be consulted.
