Friday Flashback – October 1977

The year of 1977 was not so unlike today. The Eastern Eyre Peninsula area was in drought, a drought worse than any in living memory.

Despite the hardship it was all smiles in the Tribune in the month of October, with show season still underway in a vibrant year for the Cleve show.

Summer sports were just beginning, and students showed their athletic skill at their school sports day.

Communities struggled with all kinds of weather concerns however, with harsh winds and lightning causing damage throughout the month, while soil drifted onto the roads and created sand dunes blocking the way.
