The Eyre Peninsula Tribune has a new journalist, with Rachel McDonald joining the team.
Rachel graduated with a Bachelor of Media from the University of Adelaide in 2017, and has been volunteering for community radio station Radio Adelaide for the past year.
Having lived in Adelaide her whole life, Miss McDonald says she's excited to learn about a new part of her home state.
“The Eyre Peninsula is a beautiful part of South Australia, and I’m proud to be able to tell the stories of such a great community”, she said.
Miss McDonald discovered her passion for journalism through her love of sport, especially Australian Rules football.
She says her first week has been enlightening, getting the chance to see firsthand the effects of the dry winter.
“In Adelaide we hear a lot about the plight of farmers in New South Wales and Queensland, but we aren’t hearing enough about what’s happening in our own backyard.”
Though Miss McDonald has only previously visited the Eyre Peninsula a few times, her family is no stranger to the region.
Her father Ian has worked as an auditor for several local councils for many years, and her mother and grandparents have lived in various towns across the peninsula.
