FORMER locals, Todd and Dale Parker, will join at least five teams Port Lincoln teams for the 2018 Aussie Muscle Car Run which begins in Adelaide on October 27.
The event takes place each year as a fundraiser for the Leukaemia Foundation and involves cars built between 1963 and 1977 driving around a set course.
Since the event started in 2012 it has raised more than $2.24 million for the foundation.
This year will see a pair of new teams enter, Shane Woods and Nathan Bolenski of ‘Team Woodsy’ and brothers Dale and Todd Parker of ‘Parkeyre’.
The Parkers will be entering with their 1969 Ford XW Fairmont, which they are doing a full restoration of before the run.
Dale Parker said entering the Muscle Car Run was something they had wanted to do for several years but it was a matter of finding the time.
“We’ve been talking about it for a long time, it seems like a good fundraiser and from all accounts is a good trip,” he said.
Mr Parker said he was looking forward to this year’s run and had already pre-registered for next year.
Rounding out the Port Lincoln contingent are two returning captains from last year’s event.
‘Lincoln Vette’ is made up of captain George Smith and co-driver Geoffrey Twomey and ‘Cos We Can’ has captain Kym Anderson and co-driver Paul Anderson.
One former team returning for 2018 is ‘The Undecidables’, made up of captain Wayne Little in his 1974 Holden LH Torana alongside co-driver Sean Allen.
Mr Little said they took part in the first Muscle Car Run in 2012 and returned to take part in 2018.
“Really it’s to have a lot of fun with the Muscle Cars and raise some money for the Leukaemia Foundation at the same time,” he said.
This year’s run will visit locations including Tailem Bend, Mildura, Wilpena Pound and the Barossa Valley.
