Young talent on show at Rhen’s track

ARNO BAY DIRT CIRCUIT

The Arno Bay Dirt Circuit Club held a day race meeting on Sunday, July 22, which attracted 48 drivers and over 250 spectators.

It was great to see the drivers back out on the track after the State Titles June long weekend and with very minimal issues at the end of the day.

With the Modified numbers very high it was pleasing to see the younger drivers doing so well as racing was extremely competitive.

Arno Bay Club have some very talented up and coming young drivers.

Jaylnn McCallum was outstanding and managed to take out first for the day.

Chloe Provis and Samantha Darling drove with the boys and did well.

Cort Duncan had to pull out after round one due to his car having motor issues, as did Jack Williams with clutch problems.

Street Stock numbers were up and it was great to see Arno Bay’s Pete Farrelly and Robert Harradine back out on the track for first time this season.

Whyalla’s Josh Pickert did extremely well taking out first for the day.

New driver, Darren Mead had a great first meeting.

Dog Baldock had to retire in round three due to his daughter Candy hitting the wall in the ladies’ race.

Arno Bay’s Kate Grainger got behind the wheel again in the Ladies and did a great job against Laura Beaumont, Kate Morgan and Chloe Chenoweth.

Ian Ellis Senior didn’t have a great start to the day when he blew his motor in round one, but Ian Ellis Junior made up for the mishap and he won the All Comers.

Arno Bay’s Kate Grainger got behind the wheel again in the Ladies and did a great job against Laura Beaumont, Kate Morgan and Chloe Chenoweth.

Nicolle Harris took a day out from the tower  and got behind the wheel of Brenton Harris’ Ford.

She did a remarkable job, for her first time on the track.

The Open Wheeler Class was heavily contested with two heats of five cars.

Glen Wedding drove well taking out second for the day and won the first round.

However, Kalvy Hartwig and Kym Schmidt were hard to beat especially after the track settled down.

Port Lincoln drivers Jason Buckley and Rex Laurie would have enjoyed their day even tho Jason had a bad start with minor mechanical problems and managed fourth for the day.

The next race meet will be held on Sunday, August 19, 2018 at Rehn’s Raceway.
