Verran’s own sporting superstar, Bella Smith, has continued to further her football career, playing for the Central Allies (South Australia/Northern Territory) at the 2018 AFL Under 18 Youth Girls Championship on the Gold Coast last week.
Bella was one of 16 South Australian girls chosen for the 24-player squad, following her performance in the Statewide Super SA Under 18 Girls Squad against the Northern Territory at the end of May, where she kicked two goals.
“The results weren’t great, as we didn’t win a game, but it was really good,” she said.
“The NT girls were really good to get along with.”
However, the week did not end well for Bella, as she received a leg injury in the first quarter of the last game of the week against Vic Metro.
While her games for state and Norwood have finished this year, Bella is hoping – depending on her injury recovery – to play in the under 17 talent shield in September while playing for her undefeated Hope Valley team in Adelaide.
She will also be starting pre-season for the Norwood women’s team in October.
“I’m not eligible for the draft this year, but I’ll be using pre-season to get my skills up to scratch for the draft next year,” Bella said.
Bella was also due to start training for the state cricket team this week, which starts in January.
