Flashback Friday – July 2001

This week as parents revel in the fact that there is only one week left of school holidays, the Eyre Peninsula Tribune travels back 17 years to 2001.

And here’s what else was happening around the world:

July 1 – Allan Langer makes a spectacular comeback to Australian rugby league to lead the Queensland team to a 40–14 victory over their New South Wales counterparts in the third and deciding game of the 2001 State of Origin series at ANZ Stadium.

July 2 – The world's first self-contained artificial heart is implanted in Robert Tools in the United States.

July 13 – The International Olympic Committee awards Beijing the right to host the 2008 Summer Olympics.

July 20 – Australian citizen Vivian Solon is unlawfully deported to the Philippines by the Department of Immigration.
