A countback was needed to split a choked field when 12 competitors battled for oncourse honours in the Eyre Peninsula Tribune stroke event at Kimba Golf Club on May 12.
The 18-hole event doubled as the second qualifying round for the 2018 Club Championship, with players finding themselves challenged by a course starting to show the first signs of green following recent rain across the district.
In only his second outing of the season, the big-hitting Shaun Hissey dusted off his clubs to card a net score of 74, which was enough to secure the chocolates with a one-stroke victory.
Five players finished their round with 75 net, meaning a countback was required before Damien Jericho was able to be crowned runner-up ahead of birthday boy Phil Klingberg, Ron Havelberg, Dave Cummings and Lyndon Keane.
Teeing off in an early group, Clint Powell had his radar dialled in to claim the Kimba Motor Bodies Eagle Shot on hole 13, while Jericho rounded out a solid day on the course by bagging the Murray Pest Control Pin Shot on the seventh hole.
Keane took advantage of a tailwind to win the C.L. and M.E. Milton Long Drive on the par-four fourth hole.
