Locations throughout the Franklin Harbour District Council area will be showcased through a feature film ‘Deep End’ by a group of Flinders University film honour students.
The group, made up of producer Michael Harpas, cameraman Gere Fuss, writer Bridget McDonald, director Kyle Davis and production designer Hannah Morcom, spent most of last week scouting locations throughout Cowell, such as Main Street, the Fishbox, Franklin Harbour Hotel and the caravan park.
Mr Harpas said the group had spent time looking at businesses and houses for the feature film.
“We’ve looked at businesses like Starr Motors and the IGA, we have also been to a farm,” Mr Harpas said.
“We’ve also found a shack to film at in Arno Bay, as well as locations at Flat Rocks and Red Banks.”
The students have had some help from Liz Smith to help with securing contacts and locations throughout the district.
In addition to locations, the students are also looking to cast the film with local residents.
“We have two main characters and four supporting characters that we need to cast, and we’ll need a variety of extras,” Mr Harpas said.
The group is looking for three male actors aged between 18 and 25, two female actors aged between 18 and 25 and one female over the age of 30.
Extras will be males and females of all ages.
Mr Harpas said the group had not planned any auditions for the film but if they received a lot of interest they may do one to get the right actor.
Mr Harpas said while the film was a part of the students’ honours year, they hoped it would feature at film festivals.
“Hopefully it will go really well and will be featured at film festivals internationally, which will be great for Cowell,” he said.
Anyone interested in acting in the film or who has any questions or can assist the students in any way, is encouraged to contact Michael Harpas by email at email@example.com or call 0478 297 249.
Filming will take place from July 9 until July 27 this year.
