The Elliston District Council’s 2018 Australia Day celebrations were held in Lock, with all awards going to residents of the town.
About 90 people attended the celebrations, with an Australia Day Breakfast cooked by the Lock and District Service Committee (LADS) followed by the awards presentation.
The presentations were moved from the community park to the Lock Football Clubrooms due to the forecast heat, although the weather was actually cool and drizzling with rain.
Elliston District Council chairperson Kym Callaghan welcomed everyone and introduced the 2018 Australia Day Ambassador agricultural scientist and educator Mr David Malinda.
Mr Malinda spoke on his upbringing in Kenya and his life in Australia and his journey through education and work.
His philosophy that he lives by, which he learnt from his parents, is “When you make one step, you know you are moving and you will eventually get there if you don’t stop”.
Mr Malinda was informed last night he had won the Port Adelaide Enfield Citizen of the Year, which his wife attended on his behalf.
