SUPERMARKET: Jenny and Allen Arnold have owned the Arno Bay General Store for 12 years but will be looking to close it sometime next year.

For 12 years, Jenny and Allen Arnold have served the residents and holiday makers in Arno Bay at the Arno Bay General Store but they are now considering closing its doors.

The Arno Bay General Store has been on the market for four years but potential buyers have been unable to get finance.

“It really frustrates me, the banks have been going on about supporting new businesses but they won’t lend money to people for established businesses,” Mrs Arnold said.

The Arnolds have been hoping that someone would be able to take over the store but after Mr Arnold had a stroke, the couple decided it was time to step back from the store for their health.

However, Mrs Arnold realises the closure of store would leave a big hole the community.

“Obviously we don’t want to close the store and leave the community in the lurch but we have to do this for our health,” Mrs Arnold said.

The Arnolds are now offering vendor finance to potential buyers in an attempt to sell the store.

“We are still hoping that someone will come along and buy the store but will have to wait and see,” Mrs Arnold said.

However, she said they had not decided on a date to close the store.

“There have been dates thrown around by others but when we decide, our staff will be the first to know,” she said.

“We will be doing big sales in the weeks leading up to the closure, to make sure we clear out all of our stock.”

Anyone interested in purchasing the store, can call the Arnolds on 8628 0006.
