Four Eastern Eyre netballers represented the Eyre Peninsula at the 2017 Mellor Ollson Academy Games in Adelaide last week.
Eyre Peninsula had two teams play in divisions one and three, playing over three days.
Georgia Lienert and Alyssa Cant, from Kimba Districts, and Madi Allen and Lauren Simes, from Eastern Ranges, all played in the division one team.
They were coached by Meagan Lienert, Mandy Simes, and Amy Allen, with Megan Lienert managing their program.
The girls’ team came fifth overall, finishing the carnival with three wins, four losses and a draw.
On day one, the division one team played three games, defeating Southern by two goals, while going down to both Adelaide Metro and South East.
The team had a more successful day on day two.
After losing to Central Ranges by four goals, they went onto draw with Northern Regional, 21 all, and then defeated Spencer by 13 goals.
They started the third and final day strong, defeating Murray by four goals, but ended up going down to Northern Metro.
The division three team had a successful campaign, making it into the first final, but went down to Adelaide Metro 32 to 14, finishing fourth overall.
In addition to representing the Eyre Peninsula Academy, five of the EP players, including Simes and Allen, have been identified to take part in phase two of the 17 and under state team trials following their performance in Adelaide.
They have been given the opportunity to attend the second weekend of trials due to their involvement in the Dare to Develop a Diamond Academy Program.
The trials will be held at Priceline Stadium on the weekend of October 28 and 29, with first round selections on the Sunday.
The final team will be announced in late November.
The successful players will make up a squad that will train together and take part in a camp before the final team is selected.
Those players who were not chosen for phase two will be able to trial on October 22 as well.
