Hundreds turned out to the Kimba Gateway Hotel on June 18, to thank Geoff Churchett for 18 years of dedicated service to Kimba as the local police officer.
Colleagues and friends entertained with stories from ‘Churchie’s’ life and antics in his career as a police officer and as a well-known football umpire in the region.
Carolyn Haskett also spoke about Gill Churchett’s service to the hospital in Kimba where she was employed for many years prior to taking up a position at Tumby Bay.
The community has appreciated Mr Churchett’s active contribution to local organisations including Lions Club, pony club, football umpiring, Kimba District Council as a councillor and the tourism committee.
Mr Churchett has taken long service leave and will spend time with wife Gill and their family.
