Following months of positive progress, The Barossa Cellar has now entered what its developers call the “fundraising phase”.
The Barossa Cellar is believed to be the biggest community project ever undertaken in the Barossa and aims to raise $3.5 million during coming months.
Chairman James Wark said the fundraising target was well within reach and, combined with a $1 million pledge from Barons of Barossa, would ensure the construction and fit-out of The Barossa Cellar was completed to an “exceptional” standard.
“We are very excited to offer the local community, and those with a connection to the Barossa through wine, family, friends and business, the opportunity to participate in this significant project,” he said.
“Through our Generations categories we are encouraging those who share our vision to invest in the perpetuity of The Barossa Cellar and establish a generational connection by donating vines or stones in the name of families, children and grandchildren, or in memory of loved ones.”
Vine donors will be allocated an individual shiraz vine in The Barossa Cellar’s vineyard, nestled in front of the building.
They will also be given first option to buy limited release wine produced from the vineyard.
Stone donors can purchase a locally sourced stone that will form part of The Barossa Cellar’s main entrance wall.
Up to 1800 vines and 2000 stones are available for a donation of $1000 or $500 respectively.
Mr Wark said all donations would be acknowledged on a digital display within The Barossa Cellar and on the website, except for those donors who wished to remain anonymous.
For individuals and businesses looking for something more, there are a range of key categories starting from $10,000 which provide the donor and their guests with “money can’t buy” Barossa experiences organised through their personal Barossa concierge.
“These experiences will be tailored to excite lovers of wine, and will support the Barossa community by attracting new visitors to the region,” Mr Wark said.
“We have cast our net far and wide.
“Once built, The Barossa Cellar will be a globally recognised and respected wine museum that provides educational wine experiences for wine consumers, media and trade and promotes brand Barossa to the world.
“Discerning wine consumers are always looking to extend their knowledge and build a collection of premium wines and we want to make sure this includes the finest Barossa and Eden Valley wines.”
As well as monetary donations, The Barossa Cellar is seeking in-kind donations, particularly those that will reduce the overall cost of construction and fit-out.
In-kind donations will be evaluated by The Barossa Cellar committee and aligned with the equivalent donor category.
Mr Wark said The Barossa Cellar required the generous support of the local community to make the dream a reality.
“The project represents a significant investment in the future of the Barossa and will bring immense benefit for generations to come,” he said.
“Having the Barossa Grape and Wine Association (BGWA) as a long-term tenant means The Barossa Cellar will not just be a time capsule of Barossa wine, but it will be a living, breathing building with a real sense of activity and purpose.”
