THE Kimba Lions Club recently presented life memberships to four of the club's charter members - Laurie Wake, John Hall, Ian Cavanett and Arthur Whyte.

These four Lions were there when the club started and have given more than 40 years of service to the community.

The venue for the award ceremony was a luncheon at the Kimba Gateway Hotel and three of the recipients were present to accept the honour.

Unfortunately Arthur Whyte was not able to attend because he was in Adelaide.

The organisation of the event was truly amazing with the wives required to get their husbands to the hotel for lunch without telling them the reason - this would be the best kept secret in history.

When president Des Cant presented the life membership plaques to the members there was genuine surprise and emotion.

Lion Geoff Churchett presented Mr Whyte with his in Adelaide and his reaction was the same.

The members and their wives who attended had an excellent afternoon of conviviality, and many stories were told about the early days of the club.

After 40 years the body slows down and although the tasks become more difficult they are still valued members of the Lions club and assist when they are able.
