Streets in the middle of Sydney's busy shopping district have been closed while fire crews repair a gas pipe.
Fire and Rescue NSW Superintendent Ian Krimmer said emergency crews were called after construction workers punctured a gas pipe on the corner of Elizabeth and Market streets about 9.30am.
About 60 people have been evacuated from a building, while crews work to repair the pipe.
The Roads and Traffic Authority says Elizabeth Street is closed between Park Street and St James Road and traffic in the area is heavy.
