The largest vessel ever to be loaded by Glencore Agriculture in South Australia was loaded at the Port Lincoln wharf last week, kicking off the state’s 2017-18 grain exports.

The Adriana Rose was loaded with 74,000 tonnes of wheat and barley, which took four days, and left on Friday.

Glencore Agriculture’s senior wheat trader Simon Gellert said the grains sourced from Eyre Peninsula farmers were a mixture of old and new season grain and the vessel was heading to three destinations in the Middle East, taking about 31 days.

Shipping from Port Lincoln is in strong demand in 2017/2018, with capacity fully booked from January to August 2018. The Adriana Rose is 229-metres long with seven holds and is the third largest grain vessel to be loaded in SA’s history.
