Police have issued a warning for consumers to beware of used car sale scams after a local couple were duped of $25,000.
The couple last month responded to a motorhome for sale advertisement but the item did not exist. They said the scammers seemed to be legitimate.
Police said these scams were a common occurrence throughout Australia and involved the fake advertisements being placed in publications, including ones owned by Fairfax.
Police advise anyone who has fallen victim to a scam to report it to their bank, the police and ScamWatch.
