Rudall win back-to-back carnivals

6-A-Side Carnival

DARKE Peak held their annual under 16 6-a-side carnival early in the Eastern Eyre cricket season this year due to an early Easter affecting the tail end of the season in 2018.

Sunday’s conditions were not as favourable as players would have liked but the six local teams, Darke Peak, Rudall, Cleve, Cowell, Lock and Port Neill, took it in their stride and had a good day of cricket.

Darke Peak’s Jez Schubert had an impressive day with bat, taking out the batting trophy, donated by Pringles Crouch, with 149 runs over the four games.

Jaylnn McCallum also of Darke Peak started the day strong with the ball, snagging a hat-rick in the first game before adding a further two wickets to his tally throughout the day, finishing with bowling figures of 5/13 to win the bowling trophy donated by the Eyre Peninsula Tribune.

Port Neill’s Declan Smith took out the fielding trophy, donated by Cleve Hotel Motel, on a count back with two fielding votes, one catch and a run out for the day.

The all rounder trophy, donated by Elders Insurance, was awarded to Cleve player Rhett Schummann for his two wickets for 16 runs, 55 runs as well as two fielding votes.

Rudall defeated Darke Peak by three runs in the carnival grand final to take home the Cleve Rural Traders Cup for the second year running.
