Voting has opened for the state government’s Fund My Neighbourhood fund, with 17 Eastern Eyre Peninsula projects to vote for.

From playgrounds to building upgrades and new tourism ideas, there are a range of different types of projects that could benefit the community.

Kimba resident Chloe Hanan submitted the idea for an All Abilities Playground in the town.

The idea came to Mrs Hanan when she went to the playground at the Lions Park with her daughter.

“My daughter has global development delay as well as autism, so when we would go to the playground to catch up with friends, it would be difficult,” Mrs Hanan said.

“I would have to bring my pusher onto the bark for my daughter to play with everyone else, which wasn’t very easy.

“It made me think, what if there was a child in a wheelchair.”

Mrs Hanan spoke to the Kimba District Council and the works manager to find out how her idea could become a reality.

“I spoke to council and the works manager about who their suppliers were and then I did research on other playgrounds to see what we could do,” she said.

“We’re going to replace the bark with a rubber surface and put in some all abilities equipment.

“But we will making it all inclusive, so that all children can play together.”

The Kimba Parents Group is also trying to get fencing around the playground.

In order for funds to distributed fairly over the regions, voters must register online and can only vote for three to five projects from at least 30 projects in a 5-kilometre radius of their address.

However, in regional areas, the radius will be increased to include 30 projects.

Workshops to assist people with the Fund My Neighbourhood voting process will be held in Tumby Bay (November 6, 9am), Wudinna (November 6, 2pm) and Cowell (November 7, 9.30am).

Voting for the Fund My Neighbourhood projects closes on November 20 at 5pm.
