Port Neill Primary School students are now well prepared for the up and coming bushfire season.
Country Fire Service community engagement officers, Therese Pedler and Laura Gemmel, recently spent time at the school talking to the students about good fires and bad fires.
The students learnt what to do if a fire is outside and also what to do if a fire is inside.
They practised dropping to the floor and sliding like a snake to escape a room filled with smoke and they also practised what to do if their clothes were on fire.
Students ‘stopped, dropped and rolled’ to help smother the flames.
The presenters used puppets to very effectively deliver their fire safety message and the special visit by Smoky the Koala was a highlight for the students.
Following the visit students participated in a fire drill and also toured the school to locate all ten fire extinguishers.
