Bartenders get U.G.L.Y for leukaemia

Bartenders at two Eastern Eyre Peninsula pubs are showing their UGLY (understanding, generous, likeable you) side to raise much needed funds for leukaemia sufferers.

Hotel Arno and the Commercial Hotel in Cowell have signed up to take part in the quirky fundraiser this year.

Hotel Arno’s Morris ‘Etsa’ Scott took out the UGLY Bartender of the Year last year, and although he no longer works there, he is still the face of the hotel’s campaign this year.

Hotel Arno manager Bev Frick said they were hoping to $1000 this month.

“We’ve raised $200 in the raffle last night, with someone giving another $100 donation,” Mrs Frick said.

“We’ll keep doing to these raffles and hopefully raise enough money.”

UGLY: Danielle Humphries from Hotel Arno, which was home to last year's UGLY bartender of the year, is supporting the Leukaemia Foundation.

Commercial Hotel’s Laura Wiseman is taking part for a second time.

“I got involved because it’s a really good cause, and I wanted to do something within the community.”

“It’s a great way to raise funds for the help and accommodation in Adelaide,” Miss Wiseman said.

Commercial Hotel is planning a Halloween party later this month to raise funds for the cause.

“We’ll be doing drink specials to raise funds, opening up the jukebox for free, and possibly even a costume competition,” Miss Wiseman said.
