Several young Eyre Peninsula female footballers, including Cleve’s Bella Smith, represented Norwood at the SANFL Statewide Super League competition.

Matches were played between August 27 and September 17 with teams representing each of the SANFL teams except Adelaide and Port Adelaide.

Eyre Peninsula players listed in the under 17 team were Ria Sleep, Brooklyn George, Demi Clements, Bella Smith, Julie Gerber and Yahna Chynoweth,

For the under 14s listed players were Electra Cain, Lacey Murnane, Mardi Masson, Tanisha Lambadgee and Taylah Walladge.

In the under 17 competition Norwood played valiantly but lost its division games to South Adelaide by 57 points, West Adelaide by 20 points and Woodville West Torrens by 25 points.

The team did end on a high note with a 23 point win against Central District.

Coach Bek McMahon said Smith had the ability to be one of the best utilities in women’s football.

“Mobility, great speed around the ground and sublime skills made it easy for Bella to be a stand out with the three games she played,” she said.

“Talent oozes out of this kid and she has a personality to boot.”

In the under 14 competition Norwood did score a one goal win against West Adelaide but unfortunately lost by 22 points to South Adelaide and by 26 points to Woodville West Torrens.

Coach Aajiah Jericho said all Eyre Peninsula girls slotted into the side with ease.

“Each of the five girls gave 100 per cent out on the field and made the most of their opportunities,” she said.
