The five top junior golfers on Eyre Peninsula competed in a three-day event at the GolfSA Brett Ogle Cup in Renmark.
The boys were greeted with tree laden, tight fairways and slick greens, which proved challenging and different to what they are used to but they played the game in an sportsman like manner and just got on with task ahead, so they should be very proud of their efforts.
On the Monday, Lachlan Redden (Streaky Bay), Will Stratford (Tumby Bay), Adam Davies (Port Lincoln), Cooper Westoff and Thomas Klingberg (Kimba) played a qualifying round, along with 30 other players from six districts around the state to decide division one and two.
The boys were successful in qualifying third in division one so they played match-play against South East and Mid-North to decide the winner.
To decide the division winners, teams played a match play competition against each other and with three teams in each division, it created a bye round so those teams played a handicap game.
On Tuesday morning, the boys played Mid-North and although they lost three games to two, the matches were fairly even with Lochy and Thomas winning 2/1.
After lunch, they tackled South East and although they were beaten 5/0, the boys played extremely well against a side of with much lower handicaps.
Thomas lost on the 19th after being all square on the 18th, which meant EP were out of the winning circle and it was left between Southeast and Mid-North to battle it out, which South-East won 3/2.
On Wednesday, they competed in the handicap match-play against Murray Lands, who just got back into the competition.
As a result the boys gave a total of 95 shots and although they played well they went down 3/2, with Lochy and Adam winning 1 up.
Eyre Golf appreciate the support the boys received from Trevor and Raelene Thompson, Darrell Stratford, Phil Klingberg and Tye Redden.
