Port Lincoln golfers Helen George and Elaine Pierik won the A grade at last week’s Eyre Peninsula Division (EPD) Ladies Championship Foursomes in Streaky Bay after a playoff.
Forty-two players from Streaky Bay, Port Lincoln, Tumby Bay, Kimba, Cleve, Cummins and Coffin Bay were represented.
The day started with Streaky Bay president Kerry Johnson welcoming everybody for the tournament, including EPD chairperson Brenda Heath, secretary Kay Jensch and vice president Jan Kenny.
Streaky Bay vice captain Sandie Skinner outlined the conditions and rules of play as well as the novelties of the event, which saw the A grade and B grade play a 27-hole event with a sandwich lunch break after 18 holes before continuing with their last nine holes, while the C grade played 18 holes.
Players enjoyed the day and after the gruelling 27 holes returned to the clubrooms, where they were supplied with chicken platters, pies, sausage rolls and quiches, followed by an apple crumble for dessert.
It was there that it was discovered there was a tie in the A grade championship and so the players involved were sent back out for a sudden death playoff, after which president Brenda Heath presented the trophies.
EPD supplied the shields and badges for the championship winners for the three grades, while Streaky Bay donated trophies for the winners, runners-up, handicap winners and novelties.
The A grade winners were Helen George and Elaine Pierik from Port Lincoln with a score of 138 after the playoff, with Streaky Bay’s Jan Kenny and Kerry Johnson the unlucky duo.
Pauline Britza and Robyn Pentecost of Coffin Bay claimed the B grade crown with a score of 153, ahead of Wendy Brougham and Karen Georgiou on a countback from Sandie Skinner and Hele Georgiou on 155, both teams from Streaky Bay.
The C grade winners were also from Coffin Bay, Jean Puckridge and Jill Furnell with 104 finishing clear of Streaky Bay’s Betty Fox and Jan Patterson on 117.
The A grade handicap winners were Streaky Bay’s Jan Kenny and Kerry Johnson, while Wendy Brougham and Karen Georgiou won in the B grade and Jean Puckridge and Jill Furnell from Coffin Bay in the C grade.
A grade novelties long drive combined went to Heather Darley and Adie Fraser of Port Lincoln, the B grade to Wendy Brougham and Karen Georgiou and the C grade to Patsy Jenkins and Ingrid Stewart.
After the presentations, a special thank you was made to everyone who had helped throughout the day on the course, as well as, in the kitchen and bar, and then the raffle was drawn.
