Darke Peak 6/245 defeated Cowell 9/155
THE A grade cricket grand final between Cowell and Darke Peak was moved to Sunday after rain caused a cancellation on Saturday.
Darke Peak captain Brodie Pearson won the toss and sent his team into bat.
A 152-run opening stand between Zac Meyer and Riley Haines got the side off to a good start before Haines departed after an excellent catch by Cowell keeper Crabb.
This started a steady fall of wickets, with short cameos by Ramsey (10), B. Pearson (23), J. Pearson (8) and Kenny (8) but it was Meyer who made a hundred and continued on right through to the end of Darke Peak’s innings to finish not out on 139 off 123 balls.
Jeaschke and Fiegert opened the innings for Cowell and when Stutley found a healthy edge from Fiegert in the first over, only to have this simple chance grassed by J. Pearson behind the stumps it could have been a bad omen for Darke Peak but Stutley was good enough to find the same edge in his next over.
Kenny bowled the fourth over and had Jaeschke mistiming a pull shot to Jez Schubert at midwicket who took the difficult catch.
Z. Wykamp spooned a slower full toss to B. Pearson at mid-on putting Cowell at 3/8.
Matt Deer joined Crabb at the crease and both set about resurrecting the innings.
Starr was retired hurt after a sickening blow to the eye off a top edge, which had J. Wykamp and Crabb together until Wykamp was caught in front for four by Jay Schubert.
Schiller made his intentions clear from the start launching a four and six before being caught off Butterfield for 11.
Butterfield had Klingberg caught with a diving catch at cover by Ramsey who showed there’s some spring in the old legs yet.
Crabb and Helps batted out Cowells innings until the very last ball when B. Pearson bowled Helps for three leaving Crabb not out on 63 and Cowell 9/155.
Meyers 139 not out earned him player of the match.
