Tearing up the track at Rehn's Raceway

23 Sep, 2009 11:51 AM
Dirt circuit was held at Rehn’s Raceway, Arno Bay, on Sunday, in almost perfect racing conditions.

Twenty-two drivers, mainly local, competed on a track which can only be described as incredible with no dust and very fast.

Although the open wheeler class was down in numbers, the modified class gained a couple more on last meeting.

Peter Darling won the first race of the day, hotly pursued by Deagan Smith. Brenton Heath led on the first lap, spun, and went from first to last.

The modifieds and open wheelers raced together and Rick Secker made a great come back to win from Bill Herde who drove well all day. Kalon Hartwig managed a third.

The ‘bloke from Kimba’ - Kym Pahl - had a sensational day and won the next street stock race after some magnificent driving. Darren Carmody came second. Chris Boothby did well all day for his first race meeting.

Andrew Lear, Port Lincoln, was untouchable in the next combined race and won, but not until after a battle with ‘Wakey’.

Once again we were privileged to have another junior driver: Samantha Darling had her first race, in a race where Hayden Harris tried to pass Wendy Chenoweth on the tyre corner. He lost it and hit Wendy on the front left hand side.

The pit crew managed to get Wendy’s Commodore mobile again but the Harris car was out for the rest of the day. Amy Chenoweth won the race from Wendy and Samantha Darling was third.

Deagan Smith did well to win the first street stock race in round two with Darren Carmody taking a second.

Wakey made amends in the next combined race and had a great win from Tom Harris who is getting used to all the power of his new motor.

Barry Whittaker who also spun out in the first round won after plenty of attention from Anthony Darling and Ron Taylor.

Kalon Hartwig won the next combined race by half a lap from Bill Herde- who did a fantastic job to hold out Andrew Lear. Simon Woolford had to retire, and put his new car on the trailer after the brakes caused a problem.

Because of the mishaps we were down to only three races in round three, the racing was fast, and the track black, the traction was incredible.

Kym Pahl pulled off an amazing start and passed two cars before the first corner to take the lead in round three. Kym went on to win the race from Deagan Smith.

After some confusion at the start of the next modified/open wheeler race when Tom Harris stalled on the starting line, the race was restarted. Rick Secker got to the lead and won, hotly pursued by Andrew Lear.

Carl Pahl won the last race of the round, Carl is a relatively new driver and it was good to see him take a place. Anthony Darling got a good second.

Last round of the eventful day, a few cars on trailers, but they were all trying very hard. The large crowd were loving it.

Kym Pahl did the almost impossible, started fifth, and went to third in a very exciting pass on the first lap.

Kym went on to work his way through the field and win the race, from Anthony Darling.

Bill Herde won the next combined open wheeler/ modified race after some very severe attention from Andrew Lear who just could not pass Bill, “great concentration Bill”

In the last race of the day Barry Whittaker took the honors from Darren Carmody.

It was time for the Allcomers, and the crowd were all on their feet.

Because of the ‘fatalities’ only nine cars started but they did not disappoint the spectators.

Kym Pahl got a dream start and opened up a big lead as the more powerful cars worked their way through the field.

Peter Darling spun and slowed Kym’s momentum, allowing Andrew Lear to pass Kym with one lap to go. Great racing fellows!

The next race meeting is a night meeting on October 17th, and judging by the interest from outside it will be a beauty.
