EASTERN EYRE v GREAT FLINDERS…Both sides were nervous in the beginning of the game and Eastern Eyre were first to settle with some good defence by Britt Wildman and Stacey Stening making the first turnover and Jess Harris finishing it off in the goal end.
Great Flinders were quick to regain their confidence when Eastern Eyre made some poor decisions in play and Great Flinders capitalised on their mistakes. The quarter remained tight at both ends and saw minimal scoring by both teams leaving the score 6-4 in Great Flinders' favour.
Eastern Eyre made a change in the centre court area and brought on Emily Adler who gave them some much needed drive in the midcourt, and she was able to deliver some long passes to the goalies.
Great Flinders held the fight back and once again took the opportunities that Eastern Eyre gave them through scrappy play and poor passing.
Jess Mills found her feet in the goals and shot accurately for Eastern Eyre while the Great Flinders goalies were forced to play their best netball as the Eastern Eyre defence was tight, and Zoe O'Brien made the most of any loose balls that were going her way.
Great Flinders still held their lead at the end of the second quarter 13-15.
Both teams made changes to their sides trying to come up with the winning combination to get on top of the opposition. Great Flinders came up with some great passages by their centre court players, who also fed their goalies well that had started to move and shoot more accurately.
Eastern Eyre were determined not to let the score get out of their reach and their captain Jess Harris showed the leadership required to steady the team.
Emily Hannemann made her mark on the game with some tight defence on the ball going into Great Flinders' goals, which made some much needed turnovers and kept Eastern Eyre in the game, trailing 24-26.
The final quarter saw Great Flinders step up and take charge of the game early.
It looked as though Great Flinders were going to go on and win the game when Eastern Eyre defenders Britt Wildman and Stacey Stening stood tall. Ruby Tonkin in the centre took control through the midcourt and provided support to her team-mates all the way down the court.
In the end, Eastern Eyre came up with the winning combination and a great team effort to turn the game around to see them leading on the final whistle in what was the match of the day. Best on court: Eastern Eyre: Jess Mills; Great Flinders: Nicole Howell.
