COWELL v SLAMMERS…The game started with determination from both sides and with seven innings to be played we were set for a great game. The first innings saw Slammers’ Sandy Gray with the only home run and Cowell fielding well with a strike out from Milly Wiseman and a catch from Leonie Mills. Cowell batted well with a total of eight runs leaving the score at the top of the second 8 - 4.
Slammers fielded well in the second and third innings, with a catch from Sarah Traeger and a strike out from Carlie Hutchins in the second which limited both teams to two runs each for the innings. A double play in the third with a catch from Emma Chopin followed with a touch up at second holding Slammers to only two runs. Slammers prevented Cowell from making any runs giving a score at the bottom of the third of Cowell 10 vs Slammers 8.
Both teams batted well in the fourth innings with Slammers doubling their total of eight to 16 runs whilst Cowell made a total of four runs for the innings. The only catch for the innings was Abby Nield of Slammers.
By the fifth innings both teams were feeling the pressure, however, they fielded exceptionally, limiting the score to minimal runs from both teams Cowell one run and Slammers two. Catches to Slammers Tania Mason and Sarah Traeger followed by a touch up on second base to take another double play. The last two innings were tight with both teams only scoring two runs each in the sixth and Cowell scoring no runs in the seventh. Carlie Hutchins played well throughout and finished with her second strike out in the sixth and the catch in the seventh innings.
Slammers will now go straight into the Grand Final in two weeks playing the winning team of Sunday’s game between Cowell and the Bombers.
