A Grade Final

EASTERN EYRE v PORT LINCOLN…Port Lincoln broke through to win the Henderson Shield association cricket final over Eastern Eyre at Cleve on Sunday.

The Lincoln side finally won after playing in four of the past five finals.

Ben Smith and Steve Orchard set up the win with a 92-run opening partnership before Orchard was caught behind off Carl Jaeschke for a well made 50.

Smith continued on but watched as Beaty took two wickets with the score on 105 - Ash Gray was bowled for four and Dylan Colman was trapped LBW for a duck.

However, Pomeroy joined Smith and they added 54 runs until Stutley managed to end the skipper's knock on 80 when he bowled Smith and Lincoln were 4/159.

In a good position in the 34th over to go on and make a big score, Lincoln again suffered another collapse with Roger Puckridge and Craig Reidy both falling for ducks in successive balls from Stutley.

Tynan Keeley helped Pomeroy to get the score to 185 in the 41st over before Ben Shannon had Pomeroy caught for 36.

Kerrin Siebert then cleaned up the tail for Eastern Eyre, taking the wickets of Keeley (13), Shane Stockham (1) and Ray Whillas (0) to finish with three wickets for 36 runs.

Stutley took three wickets for 14 runs, Beaty took 2/44 and Jaeschke and Shannon each took one wicket.

Dylan Jenner and Carl Jaeschke got Eastern Eyre off to a similar start with the bat to that of Port Lincoln.

Jenner was first to go for 28 in the 12th over, caught by Dorward off Reidy.

This bought Eastern Eyre captain Daniel Lee to the crease, who scored 140 in an earlier association game this season.

However, his stay was short lived by comparison as he was out for 20 in the 18th over, but Eastern Eyre will still in a good position at 2/85.

Eastern Eyre's position got even better as Damon Ramsey joined Jaeschke and helped get Eastern Eyre to 129 for the loss of just two wickets before Jaeschke was out, caught and bowled by Colman, for his side's top score of 45.

Ramsey fell shortly after for 23 but at 4/133 Eastern Eyre were still in a good position.

Beaty and Shannon took the score to 151 but both fell in quick succession - Beaty (4) caught behind off Stockham and Shannon (18) fell in the same fashion.

At 6/155 in the 42nd over, Eastern Eyre still had a chance of winning with Siebert and Stutley at the crease.

They added 31 runs before Stutley was out for 18, bowled by Stockham and Eastern Eyre needed 11 off the last over to win.

Siebert and Johnny Noble did their best but they fell three runs short of the total and Port Lincoln won the title.

Shane Stockham did well with the ball. The young opener took 3/33, Ben Smith took 2/21 with his off spin and Reidy and Colman took one wicket each.

Port Lincoln 10/199 d Eastern Eyre 7/196
