Grand Final

FRANKLIN STARS v CLEVE SLAMMERS…With more than two inches of rain the grand final was played in rather unusual conditions. Rain continued to fall during the game and the ground was heavy and very slippery.

Umpire Tom Hull got the game underway and Terrie Walker started the game in the batters box for Cowell with a lovely hit to left field, straight into the glove of Sandy Gray.

Brooke Turner then was put out 1- 3, Tanya Williams followed in Terrie's footsteps with a hit to left field and another great catch by Sandy Gray.

Slammers kept Franklin Stars scoreless in the first innings with three up and three down.

Slammers then stepped into the box and managed to get some runs on the board. Sandy Gray was put out 1-3; Kelli Turner struck out Keeley Wheare and Bonnie Mason was put out at first base.

They had lovely base running in between the outs to get six runs. Slammers 6 - Cowell O.

Top of the second innings saw Cowell get on the scoreboard with three runs. Megan Hornhardt and Emma Chopin were both put out at first base, and Terrie Walker was put out with a great pick up by Mandy Nield at third base.

Cowell's field tightened up in the third innings allowing Slammers to add only one run to their tally. Sarah Traeger was put out at third base, and then Meagan Franklin was caught by Abby Nield and touched up on first base to get Tania Mason out in a double play. Slammers continued to lead 7 - 3.

Next round, Carlie Hutchins had a great catch in the pitcher's circle to get Cowell’s first batter Brooke Turner out. Cowell managed a couple of runs before the second out in Meagan Hornhardt caught by Abby Nield was achieved by Slammers. Kelli Turner followed straight after being put out at first.

Top of the fourth innings was Carlie Hutchins’ innings when she struck out Emma Chopin, and then caught Brooke Turner. She then went for catch number two when it slipped out the glove and bonked her on the head allowing Tanya Williams a very lucky escape to second base. However, she shook this off and continued to pitch well. Milly Wiseman was the third out, caught by Tania Mason on a foul fly ball.

Sarah Traeger was put out by Kelli Turner 1-3, Tania Mason and Mandy Nield were then both put out by pick ups from Tanya Williams at short stop and thrown to first base. Slammers 8 - Cowell 6.

Terrie Walker then hit the only home run for the game with a beautiful whack to left field. Carlie Hutchins then struck out Leonie Mills. Two down and pressure was on Cowell to get runners home, they managed two runs before Meagan Franklin was put out at home plate by Keeley Mason.

The air was very tense at this stage as Slammers stepped up to the plate needing three runs to get over the line. Tania Mason snuck around the bases giving Slammers a run. Abby Nield was put out by Kellie Turner throwing to first base. The combination of Tanya Williams and Tracy Mills put Bonnie Mason out at second base. Slammers had loaded bases so the pressure was on Cowell to get that third out.
