Hunters hit the heights at Limestone Lodge

16 Jun, 2010 11:23 AM
There was possibly nowhere better to be on Sunday than Limestone Lodge with members of the Southern Eyre Hunt Club. Dion LeBrun on Angel acted as master for the day and invited club veteran Shaun Stringer onboard Tommy to join him at the front. With the club horn used to sound the start of a hunt not present a little improvisation was called for, a larger than normal version produced and a sound similar to a flatulent moose had the day underway. The two roses amongst the thorns lead the field off at a sensible pace.

Stella McGeever on the reliable Mapua and Chris Pope with Dusty enjoyed riding in the deputy position. Dusty took particular delight in jumping section four allowing Chris to show the car followers just how Quick and nimble she is.

Kate Swaffer travelled down from Queensland to attend and Tamira, on loan from the Petherick family, gave Kate enough excitement to make the airfare down worthwhile.

Deb Wright introduced her new dun coloured horse Amber to the sport of hunting. After a short period of resistance and some encouragement from Deb Amber took to the inviting jumps at limestone and showed a lot of promise as a hunter.

Angie McGeevor and Sprint took a while to sort out who was boss. Sprint showed Angie a new and novel way to dismount before she convinced the cheeky pony that he had to jump. Nakita Porter’s confidence in Luka continued to improve as she moved between the followers and the field finishing the day jumping well.

Bernie Tiller with Kiera attended their fist hunt and at he final stages of the hunt where both jumping well. This left mistress of the followers Michelle Frick-Swaffer in a predicament. She had no followers to escort and no option than to join the field. Yes Suzie can jump and Michelle forgot all her usual excuses to show a very clean set of hoofs over the final jumps.

Two truck loads of Southern Eyre Hunt Club members travelled to Kersbrooke in the Adelaide Hills to attend the SA Combined Hunt Clubs Run where four past and present club members where inducted into the SA Hunt Club Hall Of Fame . They Are Mr Jim Nichols, Mr Arne Berge, Mr Geoff Woodcock and Mr Joe Cooper.

The great soup battle continued with Mac Doudle demonstrating that he is soup chef superior. Ring Mac for recipes and ideas.

Hunting continues next weekend at Morley on Saturday June 19 starting 2pm.
