CLEVE v RUDALL…Global warming; is that when thousands of New Year’s Eve revellers gather in Stortorget, Stockholm, each cradling a 75 watt bayonet cap in the palm of their hands?

It’s a non event – have you checked the daily minimum and maximums for the past fortnight.

For Cleve, last Saturday was a vast improvement, both in the weather and on the scoreboard. (Byrnes was ousted in a bloodless coup).

The junior colts warmed up for Sundays Lions Mini Colts Carnival at Mangalo with a 34 point whitewash.

The lads will be hoping they can maintain their form through to August 9 when they get to play on AAMI Stadium during the half time break of the Adelaide v Richmond match.

Rudall led by 41 points at half time of the Senior Colts but five goals to the Bombers in the third quarter temporarily put the result in doubt – the Rams regrouped to win by 29 points.

Cleve B Graders would have been hoping to build on their surprise victory over Kimba last week but when Rudall led 4-0 to 1-1 at quarter time that looked as likely as Kerry Traeger wearing the Tour De France’s famous yellow jersey.

The Bombers rallied, outscoring the visitors 13 goals to four for the remainder of the game. Digger Donahue booted five and both Pat Jenner and Nathan Gillings, got through their first games since knee reconstructions last year unscathed..

By the time the A Graders ran onto the ground the nimbostratus cloudbanks had moved in, the temperature had dropped, precipitation threatened and my hot tip in the third at Caulfield had failed dismally.

The Bombers led at every change winning both halves by 18 points to run out six-goal winners 14-15 (99) to 9-9 (63).

The second quarter was easily the game’s most competitive with 9 goals being kicked.

It was also the quarter when Tic Jenner had a hand in three consecutive goals to the Bombers and it was also the quarter when those brave enough to be on the hill were heard taunting the boundary umpire with calls of “come in a little bit young fella” and “keep at it, you’ll get it right one day”.

I will do better this week – I hope!.

Jess Kenny was BOG. He got knocked from pillar to post but simply got up, shook himself off and went and got it again.

Not far behind and with similar attributes was Jason Perkins.

Matt Quinn took some good grabs and finished with three goals, Kym “Rowdy” Leonard effected some great spoils and Ned Saunders and Elliott Claxton were again amongst the Bombers best.

Other to perform well were Dylan Jenner (three goals), Paul Harris (he’s “got it” - he has the knack/skill to get himself to ball all day long), Kyle Jenner, Joel Nield and Darren Allen.

For the Rams - Cody Mason and Tony Evans were the standouts with Grant Roberts, Bongo Hannemann, Matt Hannemann and Kenny Newlyn having their moments during the game.

Cleve 14-15 (99) d Rudall 9-9 (63)
