Big plans for Kimba club

15 Apr, 2009 04:42 PM
A lot has happened since the beginning of the year for the Kimba Districts Football and Netball Club and the building committee, with the first major good news being notification that the club was successful in receiving $100,000 grant.

The funds from the Australian Football League Facilities Development Reserve will contribute to the building of a multi-purpose community sporting complex.

Development of community facilities and setting high standards are a key strategy in the AFL’s next generation plans and Kimba was the only country club to receive a grant of this size.

Following this news the Recreation Reserve Building Committee met with the Kimba Districts Football and Netball club to discuss the immediate plans for the site.

It was decided to progress with getting floor plans and other plans drawn up by an architect now and using as much of the clubs available funds, along with the AFL funding to complete Stage One of the sporting complex in 2009.

Stage One will involve completion of preparing the base for construction, building the exterior of the building including windows, plumbing and cement floor.

Following this the committee hopes to continue to raise enough money to begin the toilets and ladies change rooms.

The building committee will continue to seek funds through government funding avenues, and in the past month the District Council of Kimba has applied for more funding through the Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program – Strategic Projects on the club’s behalf, to complete the building of the multi purpose sporting complex and other developments at the recreation reserve including, improving the lights at the Kimba oval, setting up waste water irrigation for watering the ovals, car parking, playground, landscaping and upgrades to power supply.

Another initiative the Kimba Districts Football and Netball Club is undertaking is asking local community members for tax deductible donations to go towards the multi-use sporting complex. All donations will go towards the sporting complex and will definitely be used in the 2009/2010 year of building Stage 1 of the complex.

Finally, the committee will continue to progress with the plans and fundraising and there will be more working bees to assist us in preparing for the building of the complex and for the beginning of the 2009 football and netball season.

The club has been pleased with the support from club members and the wider community in assisting us in our fundraising and helping out at working bees and we hope this will continue in the future so everyone can take pride in the community’s achievements.

Anyone wanting more information can contact any one of the building committee members; Ian Davey, Meagan Lienert, Peter Beinke, Steve Maitland, Ellen Zibell.

As part of the overall recreation reserve facilities upgrade, the Kimba Pony Club has completed erecting a new shed made possible with financial support from the District Council of Kimba.

The new shed replaces the old racing club shed that had to be moved to cater for the multi use sporting complex and will house equipment trailers and be used as an indoor venue for club functions in case of inclement weather.

The new shed will require a cement floor and there are plans to work on fencing and exercise arenas in the coming year. Sometime in the future the club also hopes to build another row of new stables, providing Kimba with some of the best equestrian facilities on Eyre Peninsula which will better cater for events like the recent Yeltana Showjumping Championships.
