Past netball and football players have been invited back to Kimba this weekend for Kimba Districts Football and Netball Club 21st birthday celebrations.
The club’s first amalgamation move was originally made when Waddikee combined with Darke Peak then at the end of the 1988 season the remaining league teams of Kimba, Buckleboo and Kelly joined forces to be known as the Kimba Districts Football and Netball Club.
Team colours were chosen as black and gold and the Tigers were born.
Gates open on Saturday, June 27, at 10.30am at the Kimba Recreation Reserve for a series of events including junior football and netball scratch matches and clashes between past and present teams.
The evening will end with a celebration dinner at the Kimba Soldiers Memorial Hall.
Some of the club’s former players tipped to be retying their boots for the ‘oldies’ football team are Peter Rayson, Shane Francis, Troy Maitland, Nick Lienert, Tim Ramsey, playing coach John Schaefer, Steve Pengelley, Richard Clements, Nigel Girdham, Michael Kenny, Peter Woolford, Michael Woolford and Jeff Koch.
The arduous task of preparing the players to take the field belongs to some former trainers including Stony Finckler, John R Woolford, Stuart Clements and Andy Scott.
Some netballers donning a skirt and bib for the first time in a long while include Teresa Harris, Deb (Jack) Larwood, Helen Harris, Kate Francis, Kylie Thompson and Wendy McDonald who said if she doesn’t take the court she will be the orange lady.
Club president Hayden Francis said Saturday will be a great day to catch up with former players and celebrate the special achievement of 21 years.
“Although only a young club, we’ve racked up 45 football premierships across the four grades in 21 years, which is a fantastic effort.”
