As talks continue into the possibility of merging both Great Flinders and Eastern Eyre Football Leagues, the Eastern Eyre Football Task Force will play a key part.
The task force was formed following a Western Zone meeting at Wudinna in March 2008.
The meeting was attended by about 200 delegates from both football and netball clubs across Eyre Peninsula.
Representatives from each football league, two netball representatives one junior committee represenative make up the task force.
The group was given a charter to look at the best way to keep football and netball on Eyre Peninsula going forward with common governance by Eyre Peninsula football/netball commission.
This was to help with fine-tuning the ever-expanding demands on club secretaries, streamlining tribunal results, player clearances and sports recording.
From a meeting in October 2008 it was moved that leagues research their junior player numbers and formulate a plan for club’s futures.
Eastern Eyre held a meeting at Cleve in February 2009 with club football and netball presidents or representatives.
From this meeting it became evident that change may have to happen to keep sport sustainable in the region.
The presiding sentiment across the league is that much damage can be done by making decisions for change too late.
