‘Old-timers’ strut their stuff

Kimba & Districts Football Club

PAST PLAYERS v PRESENT PLAYERS… Fine weather greeted the players as they jogged onto Kimba oval Saturday afternoon to re-enact 21 years. Umpires Cearns, Mattews and Baldock were in control. Past were the first into attack with a goal to James Woolford in the first 15 seconds. An instant reply by ‘Hoota’ who was in everything.

The Maitlands’ Troy and ‘Peli’ were combining well along with Coach Schaefer at half forward. ‘Shakey’ marked well and kicked a great goal from outstide 50 for Present. ‘Pengelly’ was rebounding well for The Past while Tim Ramsey up forward was proving a handful for Present deffenders. ‘Seal’ and ‘Tucker’ were working hard in defence sending the ball forward along with ‘Plugger’ and ‘Jacko’ Kessling. A strong mark by ‘CK’ was taken in the goal square and the contest was even at quarter time.

Tim Ramsey took a mark and goal in the first 10 seconds of the second quarter. The yellow card was out early to remove Troy and ‘Hoota’ for a well-earned break. ‘Hanan’ was showing plenty of run through the centre, while ‘Reddo’ was going well at half-forward. ‘

Page’ went down in the centre with knee trouble, which brought ‘Tex’ Zibell into ruck for The Past. Nick and ‘Goody’ combined well along with ‘Yappa’ who received a 50-metre penalty for an easy goal. ‘Jimmy Kassa’ was going well across half-back keeping Nick quiet most of the time. A great run from back-flank by ‘Pengelly’ resulted in him kicking a brilliant, long goal just prior to half time.

Present Kimba were wearing Eastern Eyre jumpers and some wondered whether Mortlock Saturday was not completely washed out of them. At the orange break Coach Schaefer was very pleased with The Past players’ efforts. Stand-in coach of the day ‘Nifty’ was less than impressed and gave his charges a real tongue-lashing.

The third quarter began as the second finished with James Woolford passing to Peter Woolford for a great goal. Silly play by ‘Chubba’ resulted in a 50-metre penalty and goal to ‘Harry’ Rayson. ‘Jacko’ Kessling was still playing well for young guns!

Hayden Francis and Coach Schaefer found Tim Ramsey for another good goal. ‘Hoota’ couldn’t wait for tea, so apparently trainer come coach ‘Nifty’ delivered a pie (not K.F.C.). Past players were still dominating, probably due to their greater numbers on the oval.

The quarter ended as Ben Clements had a long shot on goal for Present players. Schaefer was still happy The Past while stand in coach ‘Nifty’ really did question the gender of his players stating, “The netball courts are nearby.”

The last quarter saw Coach Schaefer, now in defence, still going well. A great sharked goal by Ben Clements sparked Present players into action. But alas, some of the shots on goal were ordinary. Troy and ‘Hoota’ were in dispute again, resulting in a goal to ‘Plugger.’ A series of posters, three in a row suited Nick Lienert as he had the kick-ins. Scores at the final bell were Past players 11 goals, 0 points defeated Present players 9 goals, 11 points. The accurate kicking for goal by Tim Ramsey was a highlight for all to see.
