Kimba Districts to celebrate 21 years

June 27 with be a day of celebration for Kimba Districts Football and Netball club.

With the amalgamation of the Kimba, Buckleboo and Kelly Football and Netball Clubs in 1989, the Kimba Districts Football and Netball Club marks its success in the running by volunteer members.

The first general committee was led by Lyall Grund as President and Allan Symonds as vice president through to current president Hayden Francis. The netball committee began with Di Eatts as President and Wendy McDonald as vice president to current president Sue Beinke.

Life Memberships acknowledge the extraordinary commitment by members and include: Lyall Grund (1990), Kay Hannan (1991), Gwen Cameron (1991), Wendy McDonald (1993), Danny Horgan (1996), John Finkler (dec.)(1998), Dianne Eatts (2001), John Schaefer (2006), Gavin Rogers (2006), Tanya Rawson (2007), Sue Beinke (2007), Graham Woolford (2007) and Steven Seal (dec.) (2008).

In its time as a amalgamated club, Kimba Districts lays claim to 43 netball premierships from E Grade to A Grade; seven A Grade, 11 B grade, 15 Senior Colts, and 17 Junior Colts football premierships.

Mail Medallists are; Leigh Fitzgerald, Darren Hunt, Leigh Symonds, Corey Enright, Hayden Francis, David Stutely, Richard Clements and Steven Seal (dec.)

The club has been well represented by many senior and junior football and netball players at Association level and Eyre Peninsula level.

In addition former player Corey Enright has gone on to become an AFL Premiership player with the Geelong Cats.

Past Kelly players Shane and Daryl Wakelin are returning from the AFL to play again at the Kimba Districts in 2009 to honour their past and the club and community that gave so much to their junior football career, and the club hopes to have them here to play their first game for this year against Cleve on the May 30.

Gates open at 10.30am for the celebration day, with a full program of football and netball games and normal football catering available all day. In the evening will be the formal 21st celebration dinner featuring ‘All about Me’ and a three-course meal.
