COWELL v KIMBA…On a perfect afternoon for football Kimba and Cowell played a high-spirited tough game at the Cowell oval.

Kicking with the breeze in the first quarter Cowell skipped away with an early lead. Long kicking and fresh legs from Cowell gave them a 20 point lead at the break.

Kimba lifted in the second quarter which saw both sides determined to take control of the ball.

Heavy clashes saw Cowell a bit battered and bruised with Tyler Franklin stretchered from the ground.

Kimba’s tough tagging game saw them win the quarter and at the major break they had reduced the gap to a point.

Cowell could not get away from Kimba in the third and the game swung to and fro.

The game was score for score as both sides dug deep and the large crowd rose to the occasion, urging their teams on. With the advantage posed to go either way Cowell finished the quarter seven points up.

All the boys started the last quarter where they had finished in the third. A final quarter of hard football again saw both sides go kick for kick with every score hard-won in the early part of the quarter.

With both sides weary and battle-sore Kimba, kicking with the breeze, grabbed a couple of unanswered goals in the finishing minutes and ran out winners by 13 points.
