The Spiders drew with Sharks in a nail-biting junior basketball match on Thursday, January 4, 2010.
The first quarter saw some excellent team work from both side but the Sharks got the first tap.
Spiders pivot Nathan Rosenzweig was strong down the court early on, taking the first three goals of the game.
At the end of the first quarter the Spiders were six up on the Sharks’ four and it was still anyone’s game.
Spiders got the throw-in in the second quarter which saw some great defending by Spider forwards Jack Ashe and Darcy Whitehair.
Sharks crept up on the Spiders, taking three goals to the leaders’ two in the second quarter.
The Sharks scores an unanswered goal early in the third quarter to make it even and the pressure really stepped up.
Both sides saw a few falls in this quarter, but nothing serious, as the score rate stepped up another notch.
Despite strong team work by the Spiders, at three quarter time the score was tied 12-all.
When the whistle blew for the final quarter both teams came in all guns blazing.
The Sharks had the throw-in but it was Spiders guard Corey Ainsworth who scored first.
Both teams fought it out, kneck and kneck, to end in a tie – 16-all.
Top scorers for the day were Nathan Rosenzweig - 10 points (Spiders) and Rex Whitehair - 10 points (Sharks).
Spiders coach Tina Rosenzweig said it was a game where all players on the court played well, each contributing to an exciting game.
Sharks coach Deb Taheny commented on the continuing on-court growth of even the newest players in this year’s competition.
