COWELL v KIMBA DISTRICTS…Hot and blustery conditions took a toll on all players in the first quarter. Mid court players from both teams fought hard to get the ball to the shooters who shot hard and consistently in very windy conditions. Georgia Wiseman was fierce in her sixth premiership win in a row and along with her teammates, wanted this win immensely. Kimba was also determined to take a victory back to the ‘ Tiger Dome.’ Kimba lead by four goals at the end of the first quarter.
Both teams refreshed from quarter break took the court with fire in their bellies. Nat Wiseman playing 21 years without a premiership medal was playing like a cat with rabies. The half time score reflected competitive, strong determination for both teams with 20 goals each on the scoreboard. Drinks breaks were well received, sometimes slowing the game and breaking momentum for both sides.
Both teams headed into the third quarter knowing they had work to do if they were going to score the premiership medals. Cowell goal defence, Flea Wiseman, decided the weather was too hard to play netball and opted for ten-pin bowling instead sending herself and two opponents, Megan Lienert and Mel Gerloff, to the ground. All bounced up and back more determined than ever for a taste of the premiership. At the end of the third quarter, Cowell trailed by four gals.
At the start of the fourth quarter, all were pumped with adrenalin wanting the win. Cowell home ground supporters cheering on for the green and white, loud and strong. Wind played a telling toll on the Kimba goalies with all Cowell players committed to win. Great partnership between Cowell goalies, Carmen Elliott and Heather Slee resulted in Cowell winning by one goal right on the final whistle.
