KIMBA DISTRICTS v RUDALL… Kimba Districts ran over the top of The Rudall Rams in the game played at Kimba on Saturday.

The match started with a cool two to three-goal breeze favouring the southern end of the ground. Play was in close and tough early, with both backlines turning back many forward entries. The first goal came about 7 minutes in, when Brook (Wallet) Seal, always in the back pocket, got on the end of a handball chain and kicked a great running goal.

Brucey Lee made the quick reply for the Rams, and it was evident the tigers coaching staff would have to do something about his influence on the match. The quarter finished without many Highlights and the Tigers led 1.5 to 1.1.

The second opened with a goal to big Nulla Larwood and again it was Lee with a quick reply for Rudall. Whoever thought the scoring shackles were broken got it wrong as both midfields were working overtime only, to see both defenses cutting off all forward entries. Ryan Hanan, Dion Harris, Simon Hunt and Shane Jericho for Kimba were doing well against the Breeze in defence, while Greg Parkes and Daniel Lee were in everything for the Rams. The Quarter finished with a goal to Redden, who’s hard work and attack on the ball was starting to bring teammates into the game. Half time scores were Kimba 3.6 to Rudall 2.1.

The game had been played under good pressure from both teams and it was evident that if one of them could string a few goals together in the second half, it would break the game open.

Well it happened, Kimba came out and produced a great quarter of team footy. They ran hard forward, chased hard back and had winners all over the ground. Beinke, Hornhardt and Jordy Clements got on top at the ball ups, while Scott Redden did as he liked up forward. But it was the presence of Nulla Larwood in the goal square that changed the game. He was having a big impact on the match, kicking 3 goals for the quarter and providing plenty for teammates up the field. Although Kimba dominated the quarter, the efforts of Rudall’s midfield in Mason, Parkes, Lee, Evans and Joel Nield can’t be denied. The third quarter time scores were 8.7 to 2.1.

The last quarter never really hit any great heights but I’d say the Rudall coach would have been a little happier with the showing, than he was at three quarter time. Kimba got the first two though Nulla and Nath Woolford, then the Rams got three of their own back. The match then lost most of it’s sting until Dion Harris, who didn’t agree with a Hutchy high bump on Paul Schaefer, ran from 30 meters away to only receive a yellow card as the result. This got the crowd back into the game and they were most impressed when Nulla marked strongly and booted his sixth. Kimba had won the game through their third quarter with final scores being 11.8 to 5.6.

Best for me for the Tigers were Dion Harris, Scott Redden, Tim Larwood, Nath Hornhardt and Simon Hunt, while for the Rams Greg Parkes, Daniel Lee, Cody Mason, Tony Evans and Joel Nield all played well. A mention also goes to Linesy and Churchy for a good display of umpiring.
