B Grade second semi final
KIMBA DISTRICTS v RUDALL…Through shrewd management of their player list, Rudall included a number of players with A Grade experience for their clash with the unbeaten Tigers and they delivered another grand final appearance to the Rams faithful flock.
Steven Roberts was the Rock of Gibraltar at full back and won some especially important contests in the third quarter when Kimba threatened to defy the pattern of play and score to the ‘uphill into the wind’ end.
Brady Norris and Hayden Norris were too quick over the ground for their opponents with Brady setting up many attacking opportunities with some lightning dashes down the wing. Craig Smith was obviously having trouble with his GPS, he had some telling moments in the forward lines (one goal) and when a cool head was needed in defence he was there too.
There were others too, Graeme Fischer had a titanic battle with Shannon Mayfield but found space often enough to kick four very important goals including a steadier into the wind in the last quarter. Brad Harris and Jason Burton were dangerous across half forward and Paul Peters used his ability to kick long to good effect.
It was an entertaining game of a pretty good standard given the prevailing weather and Kimba tried valiantly to peg the Rams back but could never quite get their noses in front. Hooter Congdon is your classic left foot half forward flanker and he finished with three goals, Marty Rodda was an unlikely goal sneak with two, Tom Freeth, Brayden Chambers, Steve Maitland and James Kassebaum were all good contributors.
Rudall 11-13 (79) d Kimba 10-9 (69)
