‘Club in the scrub’ marks its last game

Stalwarts of the Buckleboo sporting community marked the end of an era on Saturday when Buckleboo hosted its last round of football and netball.

Jim Hamlyn played for the Buckleboo Club for 14 years – 1961 – 1974, after returning from college. Jim received the Best and Fairest awards in 1968, 1970, 1971, 1972.

Jim also won consecutive Mail Medals in 1971 and 1972.

During Jim’s career, Buckleboo played in many grand finals, finally getting on to a winning streak in 1964, 1965 and 1967.

The most memorable game for Jim was when Buckleboo beat Kimba by 45 goals.

Jim said he is proud to have been associated with this great club.

“Its community spirit is typical of the Buckleboo tradition which enabled the ‘Club in the Scrub’ to be built and opened debt free due to community participation” said Jim.

Jim is probably best known in the club for his quote “thirst knows no season”.

Farewell to Footy's finest club. A great place to grow up. You will be missed!
