WAB holds conference

18 Aug, 2011 04:10 PM
THE Mayor of West Torrens, John Trainer, gave the civic welcome to members of Women in Agriculture and Business when they recently met for their Annual State Conference at West Beach.

Six members attended from Eyre Peninsula.

Guest speakers covered a range of topics of interest to rural women and their husbands.

Professor John Halsey spoke about the importance of education for rural communities, and how food production and food security are among the big issues for the whole nation.

Shane Kelly from Booleroo Centre in the Mid-North described how he and his father developed a range of diamond prickle chain and disc chain machinery, beginning from their own needs as farmers, and growing their business to the extent that they now export their disc chain implements to the USA.

Professor Barbara Pocock spoke on work-life balance, indicating that women on farms have as much need as city women to find the right balance between employment, home and family duties and personal needs.
